The research activities of Bruno Buongiorno Nardelli are based on the joint analysis of satellite and in situ measurements through classical and innovative statistical and dynamical approaches, such as optimal interpolation, multivariate/autoregressive analyses (CPA, EOF, LIM, etc.) and numerical modelling (quasi/semi-geostrophic Omega equation solution, Lagrangian diagnostics, etc.). His interests are focused on the study of ocean dynamics from (sub)mesoscale to seasonal/interannual scales, and he is particularly involved in the experimental activities related to the measurement of marine surface topography, temperature and salinity from space, and to the application of these data for scientific studies and operational oceanography. He coordinated the MESCLA (MEsoSCale dynamical Analysis through combined model, satellite and in situ data) project (2010-2012) and is responsible of the Mediterranean and Black Sea SST (L3/L4) retrieval operational system within MyOcean/MyOcean2 (European Commission FP7 GMES Program).
